Quick Survey: Do you use MT?

If yes, why?

jangrode I had to use it recently. I had a big project with a tight deadline so I went for MT but obviously I had to edit everything. For me MT is an option only in these cases.

I am an English-Arabic translator
Arabis is my target language
it has been 3 years for me as a translator
I started to use Trados and learned it myself (coz my uni will not offer the course + I know it is a required skill for future jobs)
After I used it, my reasons became (it increases my productivity + it help me to be consistent thanks to the translation memory + I translate powerpoints and they are complicated and full of text, so Trados export the file for me easily)

I think maybe you mean you use a CAT tool there Fadwa. MT is Machine Translation (e.g. translate.google.com).

No I don't use it. For me it is a waste of time, you have to edit so much afterwards. So....

No. And anyway, MT is useless in English to Russian translation.

Productivity increase? Definitely.

Try GT4T. I believe it's the correct way of using MT. Instead of submitting the whole sentence to MT, you can select a word, a phrase or any portion of text and hit a keyboard shortcut to get translation from MT.
You can also use several MT engines at the same time. Results from different MTs will be listed in a neat little tool tip popup and then you can press the leading number to insert a choice.
