Does anyone here works for Global Voices? As in being paid to provide language services.
What is your experience with them?

fabiomcaldas Never worked for them, but will share this on social media, perhaps someone might share their experience. Are they on Proz's Blueboard by any chance?

I am not sure Dmitry, but I think they are.

The thing is that their website calls for voluntaries, however, in another section it talks about Translation Services and it says "We pay our translators a competitive rate...".

So, I am just hoping to hear from people that are actually paid to translate for them.

The website seems legit to me, but asking for volunteer translations and having a for profit translation service offering on their website at the same time is indeed strange. Let's hope some of our colleagues will pop in to share their experience.

Hello everyone!

I am Mohamed ElGohary, Lingua Manager at Global Voices. We indeed recruit volunteers to translate our content, and we enable our volunteers to translate for other organizations who approach us to translate their content for profit that goes to our volunteers, as an incentive and acknowledgment for work and time they contribute to Global Voices. Nothing strange at all. I joined as a volunteer myself for a couple of years before joining the staff.

In short, the paid translation services at Global Voices pays our volunteer translators!

ircpresident Heya @ircpresident thanks for clarifications! We use a separate software for forum because it was much easier to use something that already exists rather than build everything from scratch. Not the most convenient solution, I know, but at least we saved quite a bit of time ?
