Howdy friends!
As you probably know by now, The European General Data Protection Regulation (aka GDPR) will take effect on May 25, 2018 aiming to regulate how personal data of individuals in EU territory gets collected and used.
Even though The Open Mic is outside of EU we're still required to make sure we're compliant with this new regulation, so we wanted to give you heads up on what you should expect in the upcoming weeks.
We believe GDPR is an important step towards making the world a better place and it's a big win for all the users and consumers around the globe.
Even though we do try keep everything transparent on The Open Mic, we realize there's always room for improvement. And with this new regulation it's a good time for us to improve a few things.
Here's what you should expect:
- New registration process for new members that will proactively ask for your consent and will encourage everyone to read and agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy;
- Updates to our Privacy Policy with a primary focus on simplifying the language and making sure we thoroughly explain what data we collect when you use our service and how it is used;
- More details in our Privacy Policy on how your data is stored and what 3rd parties help us process it;
What we ask from you: we're kindly asking for your patience while we're implementing these things. As you probably know, The Open Mic is a community-driven project and is managed by a team of volunteers who do this on their own free time.
Based on the information that we've gathered so far, it will require some serious time commitment from us and we'd appreciate your patience while we work on implementing all these things.
Thank you so much for your understanding and support.
Cheers! ?
Hugs from Toronto!
