I got inspiration for this post from the latest article by Pieter Beens on The Open Mic because its title, as every headline should do (bravo, Pieter!), really struck a chord when I read it.
How are you satisfied by the amount of freedom your freelance life is actually getting you? How does that compare to your expectations before you went freelance? Do you really think it's a utopia and that this is not what you were 'sold', or did freelancing exceed your highest hopes?
I've learned myself that responsibilities cannot be avoided, but I mean, it's a job and not a hobby, after all.
Overall, I am much more free than when I used to be an employee and that's a huge milestone.
I'd be curious to see if the majority of us will show a medium level of satisfaction, as I suppose, and how many find themselves on either end of the scale ? And also whether and how that's influenced by years of experience, previous expectations, fields of expertise, etc.
