Hi everybody! I'm Olga, an English-Russian and Spanish-Russian translator. I have been translating since I worked for a large industrial company, and despite I had to deal mostly with business letters and technical documentation, I spent more time translating fiction and video subtitles after I quitted that job. I even did translations for TEDtalks as a volunteer, because I love doing it so much))) As well as watching various American TV-shows and movies) One of my favourites lately is Guardians of the Galaxy, both parts)

@Bayo I'll agree with you that TV and fiction is much more fun than business and technical stuff I've recently decided to redirect my career path to more 'creative' fields instead of just translating technical texts!

It is a pleasure to meet you all. I am very slow with adapting to so many forums and platforms, so, I have been here for a while but never said hi.

So, HI!

My name is Nina! I am a German living in Australia (at the moment, at least). I have been studying until recently and worked in many fields, cook, assistant in a film agency, video game translator, German teacher, English teacher, baby sitter, little paid projects, etc.

I am currently working to become an ENG to GER translator and subtitler because it turns out that I enjoy it endlessly. For a living, I am not sure at the moment. I live, I run, I am happy. I try myself out, but mainly work on my translation career.

My dream? So, my dad used to collect National Geographic Magazines. I was fascinated by them, the pictures, the exotic topics, etc. And somehow, instead of getting inspired to become a journalist, I started dreaming of translating for National Geographic I am still at a volunteering stage but I already love it!

What are your favourite fields to translate in?

ninagruenewald I take care of projects in those fields every now and then but I definitely want them to become a more substantial part of my work Work in progress, hehe!

Yes, I worked as a cook. But only in English, not my target language I haven't actually gotten into that field of translation yet but it sounds like the dream! Translating recipes and food related things! I actually read recipe books like normal books. No, I am not weird

KiraDyhr How interesting. I am a PT<>EN translator and have a Pedagogy degree too, from the University of São Paulo in Brazil. I also love translation mishaps. My favourite seen here is 'sleeve juice' (sleeve and mango are the same word in Portuguese, so suco de manga (mango juice) got translated as sleeve rather than mango).
I live in Jundiaí, Brazil, which is 60 km from São Paulo.
And I don't speak any Danish - the only word I know is smörgäsbord.

PaulWilliamDixon Hi, Paul! I'm an EN>PT translator as well and I think I've seen you around some Brazilian translators' FB groups.

Mango and sleeve is one of my favorite translation mishaps as well. But the "bomba" one takes the cake, as in "bomba de chocolate", "ele malha e toma bomba" and "bomba d'agua". There's no accent on "agua" because I've been having some trouble with the language in my keyboard. Its configuration reads Brazilian Portuguese ABNT, but it's different from the previous one. :/

RenataFTorres Hi Renata I have been translating for a long time but only last year I started doing QC which led me to the subtitles/dubbing department of the same agency and I love it to bits. I am due to start a course in Brazil (through the distance as I live in London) for dubbing, they do a subtitle one as well, and gaming. Google a school called Brasillis.
